About Alma Brasileira: Alma Brasileira is composed of Clea Galhano (recorder) and Joan Griffith (guitar and cavaquinho). Alma Brasileira performs various styles of Brazilian music, including bossa nova, samba, and choro e baião. Alma Brasileira emphasizes the history of Brazilian music and its influences from Portuguese and African cultures.

Program Description: Brazilian music reflects a diversity of cultures, fusing African rhythms with Portuguese melodies using the stylistic variations of an entire nation. During their Class Notes Concert, students will experience danceable rhythms and singing melodies. Alma Brasileira will introduce and perform different types of Brazilian music, including samba, choro, and baião. Full of musical color and energy, this program showcases the capabilities of the recorder, the guitar, and the rich musical tradition of Brazil.
