INTRODUCTION

Meet bassoonist Emma Plehal! She will tell you about her instrument and why she chose to play it.

FUN FACTS

  • The bassoon is a woodwind instrument and uses a double reed.

  • The bassoon is a long wooden tube folded over. If you unfolded it, it would be about 8 feet long! The part where it’s folded over (at the bottom) is called a U-Tube.

  • Thumbs are very important for bassoon players! There are many keys on the back of the instrument just for thumbs.
