Learning Objective: Students will demonstrate proper care and technique when assembling their instrument and putting it away.

Horn player Alex Henton will walk you through the basics of putting together your French Horn and taking care of it.
Take the instrument out of its case.
Put the mouthpiece in the horn.
Give the mouthpiece a small quarter turn. Don’t apply too much force!
apply a light oil to the gaps in the rotors, arm joints, and springs, slides to keep them from getting sticky.
After practicing, empty the water that collects from playing the horn.
Clean your mouthpiece using the mouthpiece brush and store it in its pouch.
Swab the main lead pipe section as needed to keep it clean.
Return the instrument to its case.
Every couple of weeks, take off the valve caps and apply a little oil.
Print this and keep it in your case or band folder!
