INTRODUCTION

Meet euphonium player Jacob Grewe! He will tell you about his instrument and why he chose to play it.

FUN FACTS

  • Most instruments have ancestors, just like people. The euphonium is related to an old instrument called a “serpent” because it was shaped sort of like a snake.

  • The word “euphonium” comes from the Ancient Greek language and basically means “makes a good sound.”

  • The euphonium is featured in a series of young adult novels from Japan called Sound! Euphonium about a young girl who plays euphonium in her school band. The novels were adapted into an anime tv series in Japan. You can watch a clip from the show here.
